How is Microcurrent differentiate from TENS?
TENS is millicurrent, one thousandth of an ampere, while Microcurrent is one millionth of an ampere. In other words, TENS is one thousand times stronger than Microcurrent. TENS is commonly used by most Physiotherapists to Suppress pain. So patients need to receive Physiotherapy regularly to continue this suppression effect. I personally strongly against Pain Suppression. It is analogous to stopping the fire alarm when a fire broke out. Pain is essentially a signal telling you something is wrong with your body you need to fix it. One should find the root cause instead of stopping the pain.
History of Microcurrent
The Nobel prize in Physiology & Medicine 1991 was awarded jointly to Erwin Neher & Bert Sakmann ” for their discoveries concerning the function of single ion channels in cells”. Their finding facilitate the study of Electric Current flowing through a single Ion Channel and measured it as Microcurrent. It is scientifically proven that Microcurrent application can increase ATP formation by 500%, which acts to control the membrane potential of the cell and indirectly influence other ION channels. eg. in Diabetes and Cystic Fibrosis. ( Please refer to my accidental findings in treating a patient with Diabetes.)
The 10 days Regime
Why not 5 or 20? It is my personal experience that 10 is the optimal for rehabilitation. Less might not be able to attain the desired outcome. Too much is unnecessary. Why daily instead for alternate days? Daily is to work in accordance to our daily metabolism. Patient would be able to sleep very well after treatment while the body is undergoing the rejuvenation process
What to observe during the treatment?
Patient should keep their body well hydrated by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day and refrain from Caffeine and Alcohol. Reason is these will dehydrate you and affect this detoxification process as Microcurrent has drawn the toxin that has collected around the injured site out to enter into your system and excrete as sweat, urine and faeces. Drinking coconut water which is rich in electrolytes would be able to facilitate detoxification in addition to adequate rest.
Does Microcurrent treatment has any contraindications?
Basically there is zero contraindication. To safe guard the therapist, we recommend patients with cardiac pacemaker to seek approval from their physician and patients who are pregnant to be cautious. Not that Microcurrent is not suitable but again we want to protect our therapist legally to get patients aware of the treatment.
